Anonymous Offers To Release “The Interview” For Sony
By Tyler Lee 12/21/2014
Following the hack on Sony Pictures and the threats made by the hackers, Sony has decided to cancel the theatrical release of the comedy “The Interview”. Recently Sony had commented saying that they’re still exploring their options on how best to distribute the movie (it seems that they aren’t backing down a second time), with Sony’s Crackle service being a rumored possibility.
Well it looks like if Sony doesn’t come up with an idea soon, hacker group Anonymous might do their job for them. Anonymous has posted a series of tweets in which they lambasted Sony for giving into the hackers’ demands so easily and also offered to release the movie themselves as a “Christmas present” for internet users.
According to Anonymous, “We’re not with either side, we just want to watch the movie too…and soon you too will be joining us. Sorry, @SonyPictures.” Of course it remains to be seen if Anonymous will really follow through with their claims, but if Sony were to distribute the movie for free anyway then we guess this won’t really have that much of an impact, save for the fact that Sony won’t be able to control how and where it is being distributed.
That being said the recent spate of hacks have definitely done an extremely good job of marketing and promoting the movie, a move we’re not sure the hackers had intended but either way are you looking forward to checking it out?

North Korea loses Internet days after Barack Obama vows revenge over Sony hacks
North Korea’s limited access to the Internet was restored after being cut off for hours, days after the U.S. government accused the country of hacking into Sony Corp.’s files.

The connection, which can be patchy, was restored after a nearly 10-hour outage, Dyn Research said on Twitter today. Two state-run news websites were working as of 11:30 a.m. local time, including that of the Workers’ Party newspaper Rodong Sinmun, which showed leader Kim Jong Un touring a catfish farm.

North Korea, which has four official networks connecting the country to the Internet — all of which route through China — began experiencing intermittent problems yesterday and today went completely dark, according to Doug Madory, director of Internet analysis at Dyn Research in Hanover, New Hampshire.

“I don’t know that someone is launching a cyber-attack against North Korea, but this isn’t normal for them,” Madory said. “It is kind of out of the ordinary. This is not like anything I’ve seen before.

Sony 'will not drop' North Korea film The Interview
Sony Pictures CEO: "We have not caved, we have not given in"

Sony Pictures says it is looking at different ways to release The Interview after scrapping its opening following a cyber-attack blamed on North Korea.
It said it had only cancelled the film's Christmas Day release after cinemas pulled out.
Sony said it was considering releasing it "on a different platform". US President Barack Obama called the cancellation "a mistake".
North Korea denied involvement and has now urged a joint inquiry with the US.
The FBI said on Friday that the Pyongyang government was responsible. The Interview depicts the fictional assassination of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
Also on Friday President Obama said he wished Sony executives had spoken to him before cancelling the release.
"We cannot have a society in which some dictator someplace can start imposing censorship," he said, vowing to "respond" to the cyber-attack in a "manner that we choose".
'Not caved'
Responding to the US president's comments, Sony Pictures chief executive and chairman Michael Lynton said the studio had not made an error in cancelling the release.
The US president said Sony made a mistake in not releasing its film
"We have not given in, we have persevered," he told CNN.
A Sony statement said the decision had been based on "the majority of the nation's theatre owners choosing not to screen the film".
"Without theatres, we could not release it in the theatres on Christmas Day. We had no choice," the statement added.
"It is still our hope that anyone who wants to see this movie will get the opportunity to do so."
Script details, salary data and private email correspondence were leaked in the wake of November's huge cyber attack.
Hackers then issued a warning referring to the 11 September 2001 terror attacks, saying "the world will be full of fear" if The Interview was screened.

The company has hit back at criticism from President Obama over the cancelling of The Interview

The Interview saga
· 22 November: Sony computer systems hacked, exposing embarrassing emails and personal details about stars
· 7 December: North Korea denies accusations that it is behind the cyber-attack, but praises it as a "righteous deed"
· 16 December: "Guardians of Peace" hacker group threatens 9/11-type attack on cinemas showing film; New York premiere cancelled
· 17 December: Leading US cinema groups say they will not screen film; Sony cancels Christmas-day release
· 19 December: FBI concludes North Korea orchestrated hack; President Obama calls Sony cancellation "a mistake".

North Korea earlier this month denied allegations that it was responsible for the hack. An article in the state-run KCNA news agency, quoting the country's top military body, called the suggestions "wild rumour".
The movie features James Franco and Seth Rogen as two journalists who are granted an audience with Mr Kim.
The CIA then enlists the pair to assassinate him.
The film's cancelled release drew criticism in Hollywood, with some calling it an attack on the freedom of expression.

Actor George Clooney told the trade website Deadline on Thursday the film should be released online, saying Hollywood should not be threatened by North Korea.

George Clooney Calls for Online Release of 'The Interview'
George Clooney has called on Hollywood colleagues to push for the immediate online release of "The Interview" despite the Sony hack and other threats, saying movie audiences should not be dictated to by North Korean tyrant Kim Jong Un. Sony Pictures on Wednesday canceled the release of the movie after a computer hack that investigators believe is linked to North Korea, and terrorist threats against theaters that planned to screen it. The decision was greeted with dismay Thursday by celebrities.
Clooney added his voice to the chorus of criticism on Thursday, telling the trade site Deadline: "We should be in the position right now of going on offense with this. Stick it online. Do whatever you can to get this movie out. Not because everybody has to see the movie, but because I'm not going to be told we can't see the movie.
He added: "That's the most important part. We cannot be told we can't see something by Kim Jong Un, of all f***ing people."

Wow... when u think of the music stars and big movie stars and their $20 million salaries... these aren’t big salaries... and normally don’t care... but hijacking the internet so viciously is just wrong.... ANONYMOUS... NAIL THESE CREEPS...  there’s something insidious about  this whole affair....   SNOWDEN IS SUCH A HERO...SO IS ANONYMOUS AND THEIR FIGHT AGAINST PAEDOPHILES AND ABUSERS OF INNOCENTS...    BUT THESE NET THUGS ARE JUST... CREEPY...IMHO

COMMENT:
These Guardians of Peace guys can’t be all that familiar with North America. Did they not realize that doing this would result in millions of dollars in free hype and exposure for the movie? That MORE people were now going to see it, not less?
Maybe Sony has been punished a tiny bit by these guys but the people who actually made the movie are laughing at them all the way to the bank.

Seth Rogen says media is giving Sony hackers ‘exactly what these criminals want’
 December 16, 2014 1:01 PM ET
Actor Seth Rogen has weighed in on the recent hack that targeted Sony Pictures, saying in a recent interview that media outlets covering the hack — and publishing the materials released by the hackers — are giving the perpetrators “exactly what these criminals want.”

“The fact that I’m talking about it is f–king weird. It’s stolen information,” Rogen said during an interview with Howard Stern, after the radio host noted that his and his Interview co-star James Franco’s salaries had been leaked in the hack. “I think it’s f–ked up that anyone is talking about it.”

“It would just be sitting on some obscure corner of the Internet if it wasn’t for these news articles exposing the information,” Rogen went on. “They’re literally re-selling stolen s–t. It’s clickbait. It’s salacious material. The more clicks they get, the more advertising they get … I can’t believe people are so happy to be like, ‘look at this stolen information.’ “
Franco, who also participated in the chat, clarified that his Interview payday, revealed to be $6.4-million, was “one of the larger cheques” he’s been given.
“My time is worth that money,” he said. “I’m certainly giving as much back.”
Late last week, a (presumed) group of individuals calling themselves the Guardians of Peace hacked into Sony Pictures, releasing copies of movies not yet released in theatres as well as emails between Sony brass and various producers and actors. Suspicion was immediately raised that North Korea was responsible for the hack, since that country’s government had been up in arms about The Interview — a Sony film depicting a plot to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong-un — since earlier this year.
“I have to say, no one has definitively told us that North Korea is who did that,” Rogen told Stern on Monday. “It could be anyone — it could just be a hacker group.”
Listen to the interview below.

WHEN DID HACKERS STEAL ONLINE DEMOCRACY.... ANONYMOUS NAIL THESE BASTARDS.... PLEASE... threatening mothers and children of Sony WTF ????
The Los Angeles Times earlier reported that anxiety among Sony employees had heightened after some received an email from someone claiming to be part of the hacking operation.
It asked them to sign a statement disassociating them from Sony. "If you don't, not only you but your family will be in danger," the message threatened.
