One
Solitary Life- Dr James Allan 1926
He was born in an obscure village
The child of a peasant woman
He grew up in another obscure village
Where he worked in a carpenter shop
Until he was thirty
He never wrote a book
He never held an office
He never went to college
He never visited a big city
He never travelled more than two hundred miles
From the place where he was born
He did none of the things
Usually associated with greatness
He had no credentials but himself
He was only thirty three
His friends ran away
One of them denied him
He was turned over to his enemies
And went through the mockery of a trial
He was nailed to a cross between two thieves
While dying, his executioners gambled for his clothing
The only property he had on earth
When he was dead
He was laid in a borrowed grave
Through the pity of a friend
Nineteen centuries have come and gone
And today Jesus is the central figure of the human race
And the leader of mankind's progress
All the armies that have ever marched
All the navies that have ever sailed
All the parliaments that have ever sat
All the kings that ever reigned put together
Have not affected the life of mankind on earth
As powerfully as that one solitary life

Roman Crucifixion Methods: What Did Jesus Endure?
Crucifixion is believed to be the worst kind of death that has ever been invented. What was it like? What did Jesus have to endure so that you and I could have eternal life?
The Worst of All Executions
Perhaps the most cruel, vindictive, torturous death anyone at anytime in history could have ever experienced was to be crucified. There is nothing that is even remotely close to such a barbaric death penalty as crucifixion was. The Romans had stolen the idea from the ancient Persians and Alexander the Great introduced the idea to the Greek Empire but these forms of death were given only to pirates and the worst of criminals. In the Roman Empire, the crucified person would be left hanging on the cross for several hours of torture. They were crucified completely naked and well above the ground and usually on main thoroughfares and on high ground so that everyone could see the penalty for committing crimes or insurrection. It was meant to be a deterrent. At Jesus’ crucifixion, which took place on Golgotha (place of the skull), there must have been thousands who witnessed it. The chances for survival were next to impossible.
Bearing the Cross
The condemned criminals had to carry their cross to the place of execution. Contrary to what is depicted by artists, Jesus likely only carried the cross-arm (called the patibulum) because the upright post (called the stipes) was generally set in the ground already and was used over and over again since there was a shortage of trees in the area and the Roman‘s did not like spending a lot of time with crucifixions. Jesus carried this heavy beam, which would have been rough and splinter-laden to cause even more pain. It must have been about 7-8 feet long and around one foot wide and at least a half of a foot thick. It could have weighed around 100 pounds or more. The fact that Jesus struggled to carry it and needed help was not due to the weight but because of Jesus’ scourging by the Romans who had beaten Him to a bloody pulp. He would have lost so much blood by the time that He was carrying it that He was unable to make it the entire distance.
It should be noted that Jesus’ trade required great physical strength. Jesus must have been a very strong man because carpenters in those days had to cut down their own timbers, carry them some distance and cut them to size. Considering that stone masonry was part of carpentry at that time, this also meant that He must have had to quarry and cut stones, transport them, and them lift them into place. Being a carpenter in Jerusalem was the most physically demanding trade in the Roman Empire so Jesus was obviously not the effeminate figure that He appears in so many artistic works.
Nail Placement
When we read about the nails that pierced Jesus’ hands and feet, these were not nails as we think of them. They were much like railroad spikes but much longer. They resembled what are called garden spikes and they were about ¾ inch wide and around 6 to 8 inches long. When they were driven through the hands and feet, they were hammered flat on the back side of the wooden beam so that they would keep their impaled victims in place. These nails were not driven into the hands but actually into the wrists because the wrists were considered to be part of the hand and the palms of the hands were insufficient to hold up the weight of a person. There were enough tendons to support the body weight of a man if these were driven through the wrist between the radius and ulna which is where these had to be hammered in order to hold him up on the cross.
As for the feet, they drove one large nail (like a railroad spike) through the top side of the middle of the feet. These were hammered through both feet and they bent the knees of the victim. The victim would have had to push themselves up to breathe, which produced excruciating pain. The feet may have rested on a foot-rest (suppedaneum) but it is unknown if Jesus had one of these.
The Scourging
Scourging was just part of Jesus’ punishment and was more than a severe beating. It involved whips or lashes made of leather thongs which were attached to a handle. These thongs contained metal fragments and pieces of bones that literally tore the flesh off of Jesus. After Jesus was scourged it was recorded to say, “When Jesus came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe, Pilate said to them, “Here is the man” (John 19:5)! What Pilate was really saying was, “Look at this man! Isn’t this enough? He’s hardly recognizable as a human being. Look at Him!” Even with this bloody pulp of a Man, they still screamed, “Crucify Him” (John 19:6)!
They also attached a crown of thorns that were likely 1 to 2 inch thorns of briar that were hard as oak and they likely penetrated not only through the skin but penetrated parts of the skull bone. This would have caused a large loss of blood and created severe hemorrhaging of the brain tissues. By the time Jesus went to the cross, He had pieces of His flesh hanging off of Him and He had large open wounds that bled profusely. He also must have been unrecognizable because Isaiah records in 52:14 that “Just as many were astonished at you, my people, so His appearance was marred more than any man And His form more than the sons of men.” What this is saying was that He didn’t even look human anymore and was so marred that no Man has ever been reduced to the pulverized piece of flesh that Jesus was.
The Humiliation
Jesus was spit upon, His beard was plucked out, His teeth were likely beaten in or broken off, and they ridiculed Him, laughed Him to scorn, mocked Him and feigned Him as “the King of the Jews” all the while putting Him to open shame. All the while, Jesus was silent, never raised His voice, never tried to resist. He took the full brunt of all the wickedness of all of humanity for all time. The religious leaders also taunted Him and said if “You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God! In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders mocked him! He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save himself! He’s the King of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him.” (Matt 27:40-42)!
Refused Vinegar and Hyssop
In Jesus’ humanity, He must have thirsted like no other human being has ever thirsted. Remember that He had nearly no blood after the overnight trial and was literally dying of thirst. Then, “they offered him wine mixed with myrrh, but he did not take it” (Mark 15:23). The wine vinegar was usually given to dull the senses of the condemned criminals as some sort of pain killer to lessen the effects of the torture. Some manuscripts say it was attached to a hyssop which is an herb that grows wild in the Mediterranean region and for centuries has been considered an herbal medicine. Myrrh, which means “bitter” comes from a tree and also has medicinal properties which could dull the senses due to severe pain. The astonishing thing is that “he did not take it” (Mark 15:23). This means that Jesus refused the offer of a pain killing mix of myrrh and wine that would have made His torture somewhat more bearable. His side was pierced with a sword to see if He was dead and water and blood poured out from His side. His internal organs were probably pulverized or like turned to wax.
I believe the reason that He refused this was to take on the full brunt of all of the wrath of God for all of humanity for all time, for all of the sins that humans have committed, were committing, and will ever commit in the future (as in today, some 2,000 years later). Jesus’ paid a penalty sufficient for all of the sins for all of the humans that had been born, going back into the Old Testament, that had occurred during the New Testament period, and for today, tomorrow, and ages without end. So complete was this supreme of all sacrifices that it covered Abraham’s sins, Moses, Joshua’s, David’s, and for all those living then, for all those living today and in the last 2,000 years, and for all time without end into the eternal Kingdom of Heaven, which will be a government of God without ending because of “the increase of his government and peace there will be no end“ (Isaiah 9:7a). How many of your sins and how many of my sins were ahead of Jesus’ sacrifice when He died and paid the price for them all? All of them! As it is written, “But when this priest [Jesus] had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God” (Heb 10:12).
The Grave Couldn’t Hold Him
Jesus died the most horrendous death ever contrived by human beings in all of history but the grave couldn’t hold Jesus. Why? It is because Jesus had never sinned and so no grave could hold a sinless God-Man. Since the wages of sin is death (Rom 6:23) death could not keep Jesus in His grave because He was sinless. It is a historical fact that “God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him” (Acts 2:24).
This long agonizing day was after an all night vigil without sleep, an illegal trial by night, false witnesses testifying against Jesus, Pilate declaring His innocence, his scourging, and hanging on the cross from 9 A.M. until His death at 3 P.M. I do not believe it is coincidental that at the same time of Jesus’ death, the Passover sacrifice was made. He hung on that cross for some 6 hours in utter agony after being tortured all night. This shows just how much God loved us. To send His own Son to die such a horrific death is just too much to try and describe. Since He died for you, why not place your trust in Him today and then you will never die but have eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior. If not, you will face Him as your Judge on that Day (Rev 20).

I've read her journal several times.
I lost track of how many.
Whenever I read the last journal entry
I wan't to cry.
The one about no one knowing who she
really was.
And then I shiver when it says *Anne

I know that the day after or so she was

That they came in and took her away to

She was such a smart wonderful person.
I know that if she hadn't been found,
if she had lived she would? have been an amazing writer.

U
are a child of the universe- no less than the trees and the stars- u have a
right 2 be here....
CHILD
OF THE UNIVERSE (Lyrics) Desiderata by Max Ehrmann
Desiderata
Go
placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in
silence.
As
far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons.
Speak
your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and
ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid
loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.
If
you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter;
for
always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy
your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep
interested in your career, however humble; it is a real possession in the
changing fortunes of time.
Exercise
caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery.
But
let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high
ideals;
and
everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be
yourself.
Especially,
do not feign affection.
Neither
be critical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is
as perennial as the grass.
Take
kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture
strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress
yourself with imaginings.
Many
fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be
gentle with yourself.
You
are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars;
you
have a right to be here.
And
whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it
should.
Therefore
be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be,
and
whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace
with your soul.
With
all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be
careful. Strive to be happy.

RESCUE MISSION 4 TROUBLED VETS
A rescue mission for troubled vets
Tim Dunne is a Halifax-based
communications consultant and militar y affairs writer.
Their demons were born in the various
Canadian missions in far-away places like Bosnia Herzegovina, Rwanda, Somalia
and Afghanistan. Military and RCMP members return from thes e deployments
haunted by the events they witnessed in places where our nation has sent them.
The post-Cold War era has been the cru
cible for new and more sadistic conflict, beginning in the early 1990s with the
ethnic cleansing of the Balkans and Rwanda. It has also added a new generation
of veterans to those already plagued by psychological, mental and physical
injuries, including depression, attempted suicide and uncontrolled rage.
This makes it difficult, if not
impossible, to live with their families or in a traditionally stru ctured
environment. Their recollections have induced many to frequently self-medicate
with drugs and alcohol.
Those who have served in Canada’s
international missions should not be left homeless; those whom Canada has put
in harm’s way should no longer go without a safe, stable and warm place to call
home when they return home.
Visionaries Jim and Debbie Lowther and
several colleagues established Veterans Emergency Transition Services Canada
(VETS Canada) in March 2011 to reach out and help many of Canada’s veterans who
could not successfully make the transition from their military careers to
healthy civilian lives.
“I was helping at a soup kitchen and I
saw the person I was serving was a buddy I sailed with," Jim Lowther said,
describing VETS Canada’s genesis. “That was enough to tell me we have a serious
problem."
From its home base in Halifax, the
all-volunteer, non-profit and non-partisan corporation began to provide aid and
comfort to at-risk Canadian veterans. The organization has grown into an
interprovincial network of volunteers, many of whom are themselves veterans.
Others, serving military and RCMP, work within their respective communities to
find homeless and at-risk veterans.
VETS Canada’s goal is to ease the
challenges of moving these veterans from the streets or shelters into affordable
housing; provide for their health-care needs; help them access the b enefits
and services from other organizations such as Veterans Affairs Canada and the
Royal Canadian Legion; support their search for suitable employment; and act as
a referral service or bridge, assisting veterans to access appropriate supports
and services.
“We are non-judgmental. If a veteran is
homeless or at risk, we will help," retired Colonel Marie Leloup says,
with unmistakable and unshakable determination. She is one of a number of VETS
Canada volunteers.
“There are lots of reasons why people
end up on the street," VETS Canada volunteer Barry Yhard explained. “And
they aren’t easy to find unless they selfidentify. We have foot patrols that
actively look for potential VETS Canada clients, and Oak Computing developed a
smartphone app so anyone finding a homeless veteran can instantly send us the
person’s location."
Oak Computing is an Ottawabased
software development company that developed the app for Android devices without
charge. Westwood Development has assisted with o ffice accommodation and Dulux
provided paint. Government surplus office furniture was an obvious bargain.
VETS Canada is completely dep endent on
donations to support its operations and the volunteers are proud that 90 per
cent of their revenue goes directly to operations. They work with Canadian
Legion advocates and Veterans Affairs Canada case workers.
Field offices are in Sydney,
Fredericton and Kingston, Ont., and new chapters are beginning in Manitoba,
Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia . They expect that within six
months there will be a chapter in each province.
Tragically, operations in conflict
regions have left our veterans with tortured memories that initially cause them
to live in tents, couchsurf, live on streets, condemned trailers, unoccupied
buildings (squats) and homeless shelters. Frequently, they gravitate to the
street and are left to seek a little warmth near a vent or a doorway to have
some respite from Canada’s vicious winters.
VETS Canada volunteers have sometimes
spent up to 72 hours in hospital emergency rooms with at-risk and suicidal
veterans.
VETS CANADA- toll-free phone line,
1-888CAVETS1 (1-888-228-3871) connects to an emergency call-in centre that
serves the country, from the Atlantic to the Pacific and to the Arctic o ceans.
Lowther encapsulated the group’s
mission: “We are the last stop before the vet ends up on the street, and we are
the first step for them to get off the street."

This is a reprint from Milnet.ca –
please share this with anyone you might think needs help getting through the
holidays. If you’re sharing it via
Twitter, remember the hashtag #sendupthecount – thanks.
At this time of year, if you’re having
a really, really tough time, you’re not alone.
You may have heard of people who hurt
so much, who thought they had so little to look forward to, that the world
would be better off without them.
If you’re so down on yourself that
there seems to be no other way out, don’t do anything until you’ve finished
reading this.
Because you’re reading this here,
there’s a good chance you’re in the military, have been in the military or are
interested in the military. You may know
what we mean by “send up the count”.
There’s a variation of this practice out there that’s worth remembering
if you or someone you care about is going through a rough time.
“Sending up the count” is something
that’s done when troops are out somewhere dark and dangerous, and the leader,
normally up in front, wants to make sure everyone’s still there. The leader whispers, “send up the count” to
the next person, who whispers it to the next person, who whispers it to the
next person and so on until it gets to the last person in line. That person starts the whispering back
forward again, only this time, they start off by tapping the shoulder of the
person in front of them saying “one”.
The next person taps the shoulder of the person in front of them and
says “two”. This continues until the
person behind the leader in front taps the leader’s shoulder with the number of
people behind the first person in line.
We do this especially at night, when we
can’t see to the end of the line, or even see the next person. We do this to make sure all is well. We do this to make sure everyone knows that
whoever’s supposed to be there, front and back, is there. We do this to make sure those on the team are
still with the team. And if someone is
missing, we find them and bring them back into the group.
This happens in peace, and it happens
in war. It also must happen in the
sometimes bewildering and frightening transition from war to peace. A vital
part of our code is that we don’t abandon our fellow soldiers, ever.
We need to remember that our “team” is
still together. We will never forget one another; we shared too much. We, each
of us, may be weak or broken but the bigger “we,” the team, is still strong.
If you know someone who you think feels
this bad, or if you haven’t heard from colleagues in a while, reading this can
give you an easy way to help.
Take it from people who either know
people who’ve harmed themselves or tried, or know family members and friends of
those who have.
You cannot know how much of a hole in
the lives of others that’s left when someone decides they shouldn’t be here
anymore. It may seem hard, but people
want you to be better. To stay
around. To be there.
If you need some help, it’s easy to
feel like you’re in the dark, with no hope of help.
If you need some help, you can make
sure you’re still part of the team.
If you know someone in trouble, you
want to see if they’re where they’re supposed to be, physically as well as
emotionally. Help send up the count.
If you know someone who’s having
trouble, reach out, talk to them and make sure they know there’s someone to
listen. Help send up the count.
If you’re that person needing help,
please, please, please don’t be afraid to reach out. A call.
An email. A text message. Whatever it takes to let people know you’re
there. Remember your brothers and
sisters who covered your back in action are ready to do the same for you
today. Help send up the count.
If you haven’t spoken to people you’ve
been through terrible times with in a while, reach out. A call.
An email. A text message. Whatever it takes to let people know you’re
all there together. Even if you don’t
work together in the same place anymore.
Help send up the count.
There are a lot of places with people
out there to help you if you’re going through a rough time, or to help you if
you want to help someone going through a rough time. A few of them include:
•Touch base with any of the Regimental
associations you’re familiar with from your deployment, just to say hello and
be included in their count.
•There are people out there who’ve had
a tough time, and gotten help from those out there to help – you can click here
to send a private message to one willing to help you out.
•1-800-883-6094 (Operational Stress
Injury Social Support)
•1-800-268-7708 (24-Hour Toll-Free
Crisis Help Line, Veterans Affairs Canada/Canadian Forces Member Assistance
Program)
If nothing else works, call 9-1-1 and
explain what you’re going through, or what whoever you’re worried about is
going through. Someone there will help
you.
You don’t have to suffer alone. You don’t have to keep it inside. In fact, it’s better to talk about it than
keeping it bottled up inside.
Asking for help when you need help
isn’t weak, it makes sense.
If you need help, or want to help
someone who does, send up the count.

VETERANS EMERGENCY TRANSITION SERVICES
CANADA
A federally registered non-profit
organization that has a network of dedicated volunteers across the country,
most of who are ex-military/RCMP. They work within the community to identify
homeless veterans and quickly re-establish the bond of trust that exists
between soldiers. Working within the community, VETS Canada members attempt to
move veterans from the streets or shelters into affordable housing (if
available). They also connect the veterans with needed health care, help them
access the benefits and services from other organizations such as Veterans
Affairs Canada and support them in finding suitable employment. The volunteers
stick with these veterans every step of the way and do everything possible to
help them re-establish themselves. To do this, VETS Canada has a national Board
of Directors composed of volunteers and has outreach across the country.

Veteran Transition Network
Hi folks. Wes here. Medically released
back in July 2013 for PTSD after 15 years of combined reg/res service.
Remember......we're all in this together and no one is alone. If you're having
trouble, reach out to those you trust. I am available at any time for any one
of of us that doesn't know where to turn. As the Central Canadian Operations
coordinator for the Veterans Transition Network it is my hope that more of us
will take advantage of our free 10 day residential program. It's completely free of charge to the veteran
and having PTSD is NOT a requirement to participate. It just so happens that
the majority of our participants do have it. Speaking as a graduate of the
program I csn say it changed my life and taught me there is life after the CF
and living with PTSD. https://www.facebook.com/Mr.Wescott

MENTAL WELLNESS MATTERS IN CANADA- -
Hold On- 4 friends, children, our troops....this song is 4u - please don't give
up.... we need u more than God does right now... Hold On
Please don't give up- everybody
hurts... sometimes... hold on, hold on, hold on
R.E.M. ~ Everybody Hurts
Lyrics:
When your day is long and the night
The night is yours alone
When you're sure you've had enough of
this life, well hang on
Don't let yourself go
Everybody cries and everybody hurts
sometimes
Sometimes everything is wrong
Now it's time to sing along
When your day is night alone (hold on,
hold on)
If you feel like letting go (hold on)
When you think you've had too much of
this life, well hang on
Everybody hurts
Take comfort in your friends.
Everybody hurts
Don't throw your hand. Oh, no
Don't throw your hand
If you feel like you're alone, no, no,
no, you are not alone
If you're on your own in this life
The days and nights are long
When you think you've had too much of
this life to hang on
Well, everybody hurts sometimes
Everybody cries
And everybody hurts sometimes
And everybody hurts sometimes
So, hold on, hold on
Hold on, hold on
Hold on, hold on
(Hold on, hold on)
Everybody hurts
You are not alone

MY MESSAGE - Peter MacKay proclaimed
that we did not send soldiers to Afghanistan to protect the rights of women to
only see those same rights eroded here at home.
Peter Mackay adored our troops on the
ground and MacKay knew it.... he walked the line everytime and was voted the
best liked of all leaders of Nato- because he put the troops first.... even
wearing the Fly Emeurites hat in the Commons
Peter MacKay just could not tolerate
the games of the 'selected appointees of years and years and years of patronage
that bogg down everything in Ottawa of all parties.....
and on this day.... Justice Mackay is
right....we did not send soldiers to Afghanistan to protect the rights of women
to only see those same rights eroded here at home
- the man taking his place now who used
2 be head of cops.... needs 2 move on... he has shamed our Canada... do u
really think we spend and sacrifice all this time and effort here in Canada
watching the backs of our troops since 2001 (be4 facebook, twitter etc.) ...
and go through what we had 2 ensuring the world made sure our men and women
wearing our flags.... counted first....!!!!.... Peter MacKay honoured our
troops..... Taliban Jack almost destroyed us all back wanting the monsters at
the table who daily butchered muslim women and children - artifacts- schools
and on and on and on.... beheading our troops whilst the media raced 2 the
mountains in anticipation.... REMEMBER 100 DAYS OF SILENCE OF RWANDA- Shake
Hands With The Devil).... and Taliban Jack wanted our Nato troops punished....
??? On this day ... the Heretic Taliban (whatever) have butchered over 1
million Muslim women and children... and they are never going 2 change and have
no laws.... they wipe their arses on the Geneva Convention....
.. Remember Hillier another incredible
hero?.... the shame of our Canadians with no kits, green sunsuits etc... on
this day we honestly remember the good ones... and thanks Peter Mackay 4 giving
a sheeeet about our men and women when it damm well mattered and matters... oh
yes... and don't mention the bloc... nor green ...nor most other tories.....
They say Nova Scotia is hard on their
elected officials... have gone from tory, ndp 2 liberal.... u can bet we
are.... because when u 4 get 2 serve us everyday folks in your privileged world
and 4sake our troops.... we will nail ur arse....oh yes we will...
thx Peter Mackay 4 telling the world
that women and girls matter .... in the hard part of the world... and in
Canada... women equal men. Period.
Love our troops - that's the reason am
here... and am exhausted 2 be honest.... it's been a long number of years of
devotion.... so come on Canada take the flag and wrap it around yourselves and
each other and hold it close knowing them women and men serving our nation....
gave u everything u have on this day... imho
------------------------
Honour, love, devotion 2 each of u and
your families... then, now...always... Grandma said where would we be 2da
without them boys going through bloody hell 2 ensure we have our freedom......
I remember that from back in '52.
Canadians like us were raised on our Canada, our troop love, our Bible
and looking out 4 each other in our communities..... and I asked my uncle with
our devastating poverty - R U SURE WE WON THE WAR UNCLE HAROLD?...... and he
looked at us under the tree while he had his lunch (it was one of his better
days since coming home).... oh yes...
freedom's worth dying 4.....
living in peace on your knees every day
AIN'T FREEDOM .... believe me babies... enjoy this poverty.... and look at that
dirt... it's free... that water... them trees, the sky.... feel the wind....
touch the hay....taste the apple... hug the horses and cattle... feed the
chickens... embrace it.... remember it.. treasure it
.... millions of our men and women died
2 give us the privilege we have 2day...... it is only right we give them
everything back.... when they come home.... especially our wounded.... and
those that died ... coming home the wrong way..... look out 4 their
families... BECAUSE THAT'S HOW CANADA
DOES THINGS.... we do it right....imho

COMMENT:
from Canada's Warrior Woman 4 our
troops... Lord how we love this warrior woman 4 our troops.... This was done in
September 2013- Canada is the ONLY nation 2 do so,....... because we listen 2
God who loves us each and all..... pray other nations do the same.... it's
time.... Soldiers of Suicide- the did not die because of the battles they were
in (and way 2 many peacekeepers of UN) BUT because of them when they came
home.... their conscience and souls just could not heal seeing the absolute evil.....
and indignity.... that man does 2 man on this good earth...... We love u so
much babies.... so much... God's holding ya all close till us tattered and
tarnished ole angels get there... and by God... we still got your backs... just
ask our Lise....

U are a child of the universe- no less

CHILD OF THE UNIVERSE (Lyrics)
Desiderata by Max Ehrmann
Desiderata
Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender be
on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and
listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they
are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and
lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your
plans.
Keep interested in your career, however
humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business
affairs; for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what
virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be critical about love; for in
the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield
you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and
loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe, no
less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and
aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery and broken
dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy.

Beatitudes For The Aged
-- Esther Mary Walker
Blessed are they who understand
My faltering step and palsied hand.
Blessed are they who know that my ears
today
Must strain to catch the things they
say.
Blessed are they who seem to know
That my eyes are dim and my wits are
slow.
Blessed are they who looked away
When coffee spilled at table today.
Blessed are they with a cheery smile
Who stop to chat for a little while.
Blessed are they who never say,
"You've told that story twice
today."
Blessed are they who know the ways
To bring back memories of yesterdays.
Blessed are they who make it known
That I'm loved, respected and not
alone.
Blessed are they who know I'm at a loss
To find the strength to carry the
Cross.
Blessed are they who ease the days
On my journey Home in loving ways.

I'm writing this from a hotel room in
Kitchener, the host city for this year's Special Hockey International
tournament. I just got to witness an
emotional Opening Ceremony welcoming the 32 teams - - many from Ontario and the
eastern US. There are also 2 teams from
the UK with us this week.
The theme of this year's tournament is
"Yes I Can". And while I often
talk on the air about how proud I am of our local Kawartha Komets teams, it's
impossible to find words that describe what I get to witness each week at the
rink - - children and young adults alike who are overcoming physical adversity,
neurological challenges and social issues.
Special needs is hockey is
special. This video captured an unstaged
moment during A Guelph Giants game last year that embodies the spirit of the
game.
I look forward to seeing more of these
special moments over the next few days.
Enjoy.

Keys to Understanding Violence in the Old Testament
Posted on July 22, 2013 by Lawson Stone
It’s hard to imagine anyone today who is familiar with the Bible not being concerned about the violence in the Old Testament. It’s a fashionable bomb tossed by the so-called new atheists, and the easiest way for critics of Christianity to dismiss the Bible. To hear them talk, on every page of the Old Testament cities are burned to the ground, whole populations annihilated. Yahweh, the God of Israel, is in turn portrayed as a wrathful tribal deity constantly calling his people to commit atrocities in his name.
The problem of violence in the Old Testament centers mainly around the stories of Israel’s struggle to settle the land of Canaan. These stories center on the books of Joshua and Judges. So establish some starting points by looking in a general way at the question of violence and war in the Old Testament. Then in the installments to follow, we’ll turn specifically to Joshua and Judges.
All these presentations will share one important conviction: central to getting the Bible right is hearing it in its own cultural and historical setting. This is not just good scholarship; it’s good listening. That’s why I’m excited to be sharing with you from a place called Bedhat es-Sha’ab, a little-known and infrequently visited site just west of the Jordan river that is possibly one of the earliest places where Israelites assembled and worshiped as they settled in the land of Canaan. Being an outsider in this barren, desolate place reminds me that the biblical characters didn’t live in a world of civilian police, ambulance and 9-1-1 service. Nor did they have 2000 years of reflection on the whole Bible. The Old Testament characters need to be seen and heard in their own time, not dismissed from the perspective of our time.
With that in mind, here are seven facts to to help focus the question of violence in the Old Testament:
Second, Pharaoh exploited Canaan economically. He administered Canaan by appointing rulers in the top 30 or so towns. They managed the country like a giant agricultural plantation, a kind of “factory farm.” They focused on producing a small number of crops valued by the Egyptian upper classes, mainly olives and a type of grape that thrived only in Canaan.
This reality had serious consequences.
The focus on massive production of a few crops not only risked depleting the land, it also destroyed the locally integrated, self-sustaining economies of small villages and towns throughout the hill country. These communities needed mix of farming and herding just to survive. The Egyptians also yanked the best of the work force out of these towns and villages to toil as forced labor, emptying the rural hill country of Canaan. Many people from Canaan, not just future Israelites, wound up slaves in Egypt. Settlement patterns in Canaan about 1300 B.C., just before the exodus and conquest, show the central hill country of Canaan was largely emptied out.
Under this kind of regime, Canaan was unstable and violent. The city rulers fought each other, hired mercenaries, sometimes cruelly treated the local populace. Bandits terrorized the highways. Men stripped of their land and living gathered around warlords, some of whom were good men, others just thugs or gangsters.
So, by the time Joshua led the Israelites into Canaan, the place was dark and bloody ground. It’s just possible that, far from being seen as invaders, Joshua and the Israelites represented the arrival of order, justice, and even peace.
The books of Deuteronomy, Joshua & Judges stress that, from a military perspective, the Israelites were out-numbered, out-maneuvered and out-gunned. After Joshua, they had no central authority. They were only a coalition of tribes, often divided, often untrue to their own religion. The Bible says they needed miraculous divine intervention just to survive. Hardly the profile of a nation of bloodthirsty, imperialists!
Whatever problems we might have with the violence in the Old Testament, it was One who claimed to be the fulfillment of the entire Old Testament, Jesus, whose Hebrew name was Joshua, who appealed constantly to the OT witness. Schooled in the Old Testament, Jesus called his people to love their enemies and to be peacemakers, not in spite of his Old Testament heritage, but because of it.
That’s something to think about.

With that in mind, here are seven facts to to help focus the question of violence in the Old Testament:
FACT ONE:
Jesus and the NT writers never complain about the violence in the Old Testament. That should flash at least a yellow, caution-light on our hasty dismissal of the Old Testament. Are WE more morally sensitive than Jesus and the New Testament writers? Did they see something in the Old Testament that we miss?FACT TWO
Secular historians and the Bible itself tell us that the land of Canaan at the time of the Israelite settlement was not inhabited by a uniform, indigenous population. Canaan was a crossroads and a diverse culture of many different groups: You know, all the “-ites”-Canaanites, Amorites, Perizites, stalactites, stalagmites… If you’d asked a random inhabitant of Canaan “Whose land is this?” You’d have gotten different answers. It was a no-mans-land.FACT THREE
Genesis 12-50 tells us the Israelites’ ancestors had actually lived in Canaan for centuries before their sojourn in Egypt. They were not outsiders trying to take a land from its original owners. In fact, the Pharaohs of Egypt would have seen no real difference between Canaanites and Israelites. They came from the same place, spoke the same language, had the same physical anthropology, i.e. they looked alike. So there is no parallel between the book of Joshua and, say, the European settlers in North America displacing the earlier inhabitants.FACT FOUR
This a biggee. By Joshua’s day, Canaan had long suffered under a harsh political system. Canaan in the time of Moses and Joshua had been ruled for centuries by Egypt. Egypt had been ruled by foreign kings known as the Hyksos, who possibly came from Syria-Palestine. A native Egyptian dynasty expelled these foreign kings, pursuing them into Canaan. To insure they never came back, Egypt annexed Canaan and ruled it with two aims: first, never-ever would Canaan be a corridor for anyone attacking Egypt!Second, Pharaoh exploited Canaan economically.
So, by the time Joshua led the Israelites into Canaan, the place was dark and bloody ground. It’s just possible that, far from being seen as invaders, Joshua and the Israelites represented the arrival of order, justice, and even peace.
FACT FIVE
The Old Testament shows us that, even in the conquest stories, the Israelites were not a militarized nation. While other nations boasted of their weapons and crack troops, the Israelites were not a professional army. Likewise, the Israelites were not a huge group. The idea found in some textbooks that there were at least 2.5 million Israelites comes from a misunderstanding of the Hebrew terminology for numbers. Archaeologists tell us that likely weren’t 2.5 million people living in all of Canaan and Syria combined!
FACT SIX
Warlike nations, and all of Israel’s ancient neighbors, gloried in their superior weapons and firepower. Images of Pharaoh portray him holding his hapless enemies by the hair and smiting them with a mace or battle axe. Or, we see Pharaoh thundering along in his war chariot, horses’ reins tied around his waist, unleashing arrows at cringing, fleeing foes. The Old Testament, in contrast, stresses that the Israelites were poorly armed, confronting fortified cities or huge chariot forces on foot. The Old Testament also emphasizes Israel’s lack of metal workers. Again, not exactly a warrior nation.FACT SEVEN
Finally, the world of Moses, Joshua, Gideon and David was a world of unspeakable violence perpetrated by massive, well-armed professional armies. The kings of Egypt, Asia Minor and Mesopotamia gloried in their brutality and savagery. In countless inscriptions throughout the history of the ancient Near East, the great kings boasted of boring through their enemies’ bodies, ripping their entrails out, galloping their horses and chariots through the gore of enemy bodies, splashing through enemy blood as if crossing a river, impaling thousands of “rebels” on stakes around conquered cities, flaying the skin off of their defeated enemies in full view of their families, and hideously mutilating the dead. And you know, almost nobody in the ancient Near East found this shocking. Rather, most thought it glorious proof that the gods had favored the king. Compared to the graphic detail, intensity, and sheer mass of these ancient descriptions, the Old Testament looks rather tame, even modest.Whatever problems we might have with the violence in the Old Testament, it was One who claimed to be the fulfillment of the entire Old Testament, Jesus, whose Hebrew name was Joshua, who appealed constantly to the OT witness. Schooled in the Old Testament, Jesus called his people to love their enemies and to be peacemakers, not in spite of his Old Testament heritage, but because of it.
That’s something to think about.
