Hilbert Sherman Fisher
Hilbert Sherman Fisher - 89, of New Minas, passed away at Valley Regional Hospital on Monday, July 18, 2016 following a brief illness, with his family by his side. Born on October 25, 1926 in Great Village, Nova Scotia, he was a son of the late Earle and Myrtle (Vance) Fisher of Springhill. His construction career began as a Foreman on many construction jobs around the province. Hilbert moved to the Annapolis Valley in 1958 and in 1964 went to work with V.C. Woodworth 1964 Ltd., where he was the Vice President in charge of overseeing all large projects throughout the Maritimes. He later founded Topline Ventures Ltd. with Vernon MacDonald in 1970.  Hilbert had a strong work ethic and firmly believed that a handshake was as good as a contract. He took pride in his work and the success of his construction accomplishments. Retiring at 78, he continued to visit his office daily so that he could keep an eye on the ongoing projects. Home was always filled with children and family pets be it bunnies, chickens, horses, cats, dogs or ducks. Since retirement, his grandchildren and great grandchildren became the focus of all his love and attention and he enjoyed many visits with them in his home.  He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, the former Marjorie Cochrane; infant son, Wayne Douglas; sister, Earlene Samson.  He is survived by daughter, Holly (David) Thompson, New Minas; son, Harold (Katharine) New Minas; three granddaughters, Emily Fisher, Courtney Fisher and Jenna Thompson and one grandson, Brady Fisher; two brothers, Russell, Springhill; Dr. DeWenten, Ontario; sister-in-law, Eileen Cochrane, New Minas; brothers-in-law Clayton Cochrane and Sydney (Eleanor) Cochrane, New Minas; two great grand-daughters Alexa Fisher and Olivia Young. Even in his final days he would tease the grandchildren and share family memories.  His wonderful sense of humour will be sadly missed by many. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, July 24, 2016 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 25, 2016. A private family burial will take place at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2016 in St. George's Cemetery, Parrsboro.  Family flowers only, by request. Donations may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital Foundation (Carey Me - Palliative Care in the Home Fund), P.O. Box 911, Kentville, NS B4N 4H8 or a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
