#YouAintNoMuslimBruv: How Twitter responded to Leytonstone attack

Twitter users are posting messages including the hashtag #YouAintNoMuslimBruv to show their contempt for a man who allegedly stabbed three people at a London Tube station.

One man was seriously injured, while another suffered minor injuries during the knife attack at Leytonstone station, on Saturday.
The video of the aftermath of the attack shows a man being pinned to floor having been Tasered by police. It is then that you can hear an unidentified bystander shouting: "You ain't no Muslim bruv."
The phrase has been widely picked up by social media users who say it is the perfect riposte to attempts to spread violence and terror in London.
The first messages were posted shortly after the video emerged online on Saturday night.

However, on Sunday it topped the UK trending chart on Twitter, with thousands sharing the same message.
One user called Muthla said it was the "best trend I've seen", others said they were proud to be a Londoner, while another said the message "undermines" terrorism.

The #YouAintNoMuslimBruv trend follows other defiant messages on social media sites following terror attacks.

Among all our Nato Military…. many of our troops are Islam…. Please honour our troops and yours…. When brothers and sisters of our flags of our nations fight side by side and 2 often die protecting innocents and each other… RESPECT ALL OUR TROOPS… please…. We also have many First Responders…. Who race to the horror to save us…. We don’t take the f**king time to ask their race, creed, religion etc…. come on… it’s 2015. SO found this question… and wanted to share… it’s years old… but proves a point b4 the monsters raised up in a peaceful and beautiful faith…. And one picture at the tail end of this photo essay was of a mother in Arlington Cemetery, and she had her head on the headstone of her son’s grave. And as the picture focused in, you could see the writing on the headstone. And it gave his awards — Purple Heart, Bronze Star — showed that he died in Iraq, gave his date of birth, date of death. He was 20 years old.
And then, at the very top of the headstone, it didn’t have a Christian cross; it didn’t have the Star of David; it had crescent and a star of the Islamic faith. And his name was Kareem Rashad Sultan Khan, and he was an American. He was born in New Jersey. USA- Muslims in World War II?

I am trying to find information about Islam in the US, or more specifically in the US military. Where can I find information about muslims who served in previous wars, on the US side? I am particularly interested in World War II and whether any muslims stormed the beach on D-Day.

Update: To S K, If you read my question, i asked about Muslims activities on the UNITED STATES/ALLIED sides. I knew about Hitler and Islam, but it is irrelevant to my question, since it concerns U.S. history.

COMMENT; Muslims have fought bravely and with distinction for our side, through all our history. Peter Saleem fought alongside Patriots at Bunker Hill. Over 200 have recieved combat medals while in Afghanistan, including Humayan Kahn, who lured a bomb toward him and sacrificed himself, to save the men of his own unit. The wiki site notes many Muslims who fought for us, in the War of 1812, and the Civil War.

Yet, there are very few in our army; only 3,500 out of 1.4 million today. A lot of Islamic immigration has happened between now and ww2, so that would have been much lower.

But, did many Muslims storm the beach on D-day? Absolutely! The D-day forces included the "Free French", led by Charles Gaul, consisting mostly of soldiers from the French African colonial empire. Therefore though not in our army, many would have been on the Allied side that day.

Don't know about the United States, but there were a lot of Muslims in British and French colonial units. Several Soviet Republics were ethnically Muslim (if you see what I mean), so there were Muslims in the Red Army. Albania, Europe's only Muslim-majority country, was also on the Allied side and was one of the few European countries to liberate itself from the Germans. The Albanian partisans probably identified more as communists than Muslims.

Winston Churchill tried hard to persuade Turkey - the most important Muslim country at that time - to join the war on the Allied side but Ataturk refused because he was still consolidating the state after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire.

A number of Muslims won the Victoria Cross, the highest British and Commonwealth award for bravery, in the Second World War.

On the German side, there was a Bosniak SS unit.

The Patriotic Arab American website should be able to supply you with an answer. 15,000 Arab/Americans served, but how many were Muslim and how many where Christian is the question. http://www.apaam.org/ seems like they would be happy to supply you with some statistics. They strike me as very approachable. It's a great site.

As for allied soldiers, you'd really have to go country by country. I know many served with the British Indian Army. http://www.emel.com/article?a_id=1699&id... has an excellent page that should tell you the number. It starts with the contribution in WW1 and goes onto WW2. Approx. 20,000 Indian Muslim troops served in the Italian campaign. I'm not sure how many served in the Burma campaign.

Since the mosque of Peterborough (Canada) was set on fire after the attacks of Paris, it's the synagogue who welcomes Muslim prayers: " this is not a matter of religion or color, it's a question of Good neighbours ". A beautiful message of unity!
