What is this all about?
This list above is of 80 DNS-based anti-spam databases. (DNS stands for Domain Name System, not for Do Not Solicit.) Most Internet service providers (ISPs) and web servers look to these lists for IP addresses linked to computers that send out spam or unwanted activity.Your IP address might have resulted in the blacklisted symbol () appearing next to a few databases. It may be that at one point your IP address was flagged for some reason and blocked by some servers. (It could be that someone who was once assigned that IP address was blacklisted.)
Of course, if it seems that you're involved in spamming or other unwanted online behavior, your IP address could get blacklisted and blocked. It will get flagged and land on one or more of these databases. You'll be able to see that here at any time by running a new blacklist check.

WhatIsMyIPAddress.com does not run, manage, or have any direct relationship with any blacklist. We provide a single location to check the status of an IP address on 3rd party blacklists. WhatIsMyIPAddress.com does not recommend the usage of any specific blacklist and does not condone blacklists that require payment for removal. Our inclusion of such blacklists are for the purposes of completeness and should not be considered support of that blacklist's usage.

Read the information below for an explanation.
You can't always get what you want.

- The IP's host name
- The country it's in
- The region/state
- The city (a best guess)
- The latitude and longitude of the location (a best guess)
- The area code for that region
- Any known services running on that IP

Trace Email
Find Email Address Source
In the following steps you'll learn how to find and copy an email header and paste it into the Trace Email Analyzer to get the sender's IP address and track the source.Would you like to track down (or trace) where an email that you received came from?
This Trace Email tool can help you do precisely that. It works by examining the header that is a part of the emails you receive to find the IP address. If you read the IP Lookup page, you'll get a clear idea of what information an IP address can reveal.
(A header is the unseen part of every sent and received email. To learn a little bit more on headers, click here. You can see an example of a header at the end of this article.)
What email provider do you use?
To find the IP address of a received email you're curious about, open the email and look for the header details. How you find that email's header depends on the email program you use. Do you use Gmail or Yahoo? Hotmail or Outlook? For example, if you're a Gmail user, here are the steps you'd take:
- Open the message you want to view
- Click the down arrow next to the "Reply" link
- Select "Show Original" to open a new window with the full headers
STEPS TO TRACING AN EMAIL:
- Get instructions for locating a header for your email provider here
- Open the email you want to trace and find its header
- Copy the header, then paste it into the Trace Email Analyzer below
- Press the "Get Source" button
- Scroll down below the box for the Trace Email results!

Speed Test
Internet Speed Test
First, grab a pen and a pad of paper because you'll want to record the results of this test.Below is a box with the WhatismyIPaddress.com logo and a button in the middle that says "Begin Test." Go ahead and click the button and watch what happens.
Under the box you'll get the results. Jot them down. They'll be something like this:
- Last Result:
Download Speed: 5563 kbps (695.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 5498 kbps (687.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 14 ms
Wed Aug 14 10:26:29 2013
What does this test tell you?
You tested your Internet connection to get a general idea of your broadband capacity and speed. To be specific, the readouts you receive are for download speed, upload speed and latency.- Download speed: This is how efficiently music, photos and videos, or information goes from a website or other sources on the Internet to your computer.
Upload speed: This is the opposite. This tells you how efficiently pictures or files transfer from your computer to another site, such as uploading a photo to a social network.
Latency: Also known as the ping rate, this number corresponds to delay time on the Internet measured in milliseconds. The higher the number, the more delays you experience and may sense while you're online.
If you play online games, especially first-person shooting or driving games, then you want the latency to be less than 30ms. For the rest of us, anything under 100ms would be good enough.
Speed matters, but...
There are several factors that can affect your Internet connection speed at any given time, other than what type of connection you have, such as cable or DSL.If several people in one house are online at the same time, playing games and streaming music or videos, the Internet connection could be slower. Also, the age of your computer or modem could be a factor, because the technology is constantly improving.
Still, if you're not happy with the typical speed (or slowness) of your Internet connection, talk to your service provider and see what they suggest. Be sure to get their suggestions about improving your speed without a service upgrade.

Change IP
How to change your IP address
If you want to change your IP address on your home computer, there are few ways that might work for you—some simple, some not. Before trying more complicated/technical methods described below, you can try something that's very easy.- Simply turn off or unplug your modem for about five minutes. (You don't have to turn your computer off.) In many cases this alone will change your IP address when you go back online.
- If that doesn't work, try unplugging your modem overnight and checking your IP address the next morning.
Have laptop, go mobile
If you have a laptop, you can switch to a new IP address very easily, if only temporarily—but you can do it anytime you want.Just go to any coffee shop, bookstore or other place that offers free wireless Internet (Wi-Fi®). Your IP address will automatically change because you'll be using a different Internet connection to send email or join chat rooms.
How about a proxy?
If you're trying to change your IP address primarily because you want to access web-based forums, you may wish to look into using a proxy server. Learn more by reading our article on proxies. What next?
If you're not the technical type, contact your Internet service provider (ISP) and ask them if they are able to change your IP address or how long your connection needs to be off for your IP address to change. If you're up for more-advanced methods, and you use Windows, try the steps below and see if your IP address changes.
For Windows users
- Computer connected directly to a cable or DSL modem- Get to a command prompt. (START, run, cmd).
- Type "ipconfig /release" (without the quotes, on the command line by itself).
- Shut down computer.
- Turn off computer.
- Turn off all ethernet hubs/switches.
- Turn off cable/DSL modem.
- Leave off overnight.
- Turn everything back on.
For networks using a Router
- Log into the router's admin console. (Often http://192.168.1.1/)
- Release the IP address (method varies by router manufacturer)
- Turn off router, ethernet hubs/switches, and the cable/DSL modem
- Leave off overnight
- Next day, turn everything back on
If you have a router and you're still not having any luck, check to see if there is a "Clone MAC Address" option. Using it should change your IP address; however, in most cases you'll only be able to do it once.
If this does not answer your question, please visit the change IP address forum.

Hide IP
How to Hide Your IP Address
Borrow a different IP address to go anywhere online and stay hidden.
There are a few ways to hide your IP address...that unique number assigned to the network connection on the computer.Top 4 reasons why people want to hide their IP address:
- Hide their geographical location
- Prevent Web tracking
- Avoid leaving a digital footprint
- Bypass any bans or blacklisting of their IP address
The safe and secure way
Use a Trusted Proxy or Virtual Private Network. Sign up with these services and when you go online, you'll be showing the world a different IP address...one that's on loan from the service you're using. Here are some VPN providers that you might consider:
VPNs can be free or you can pay for the service. They help you get on the Internet and assign you a different IP address, but there's a wide range of reliability in providers.
There are many more advantages to using a personal VPN service over a proxy (usability, security, access to blocked sites).
The easy way
Use Free Wi-Fi Outside of Your Home. An IP address doesn't travel with you. So if you simply go to a coffee shop, bookstore or hotel lobby and tap into their Wi-Fi, you will temporarily hide your usual IP address. How so? You'll be using their network's IP address for as long as you're online.Try it out. First, check your IP address on WhatIsMyIPAddress.com, and then visit any place with free Wi-Fi, log in to their Internet and check it again.
However, if you don't use a VPN (read below), your Internet activity is at risk of being spied on or intercepted by a bad guy without your knowing it. How likely is that? Who knows! But don't make online purchases or check your bank account while drinking your Grande Espresso.
