-----THE
LITTLE GIRL--- BIBLE AND THE GOOD SAMARITAN- a Catechism Lesson
This is the story of a little girl (her name
is Linda) who's momma passed on to her Lord and Savior leaving her in the
care and trust of her mother's sister. Well as stories go, Linda (the little
girl) was left alone all the time and often her aunt did not return for days
at a time, leaving Linda, hungry, dirty and cold. Linda knew her momma was
watching over her from Heaven with Jesus..... and remembering one of her
special evenings with her beloved momma.... came to a decision. Moma left
Linda her precious Bible and very little else and Linda made a promise to her
momma that she vowed to keep.
Linda is 12 years old.
One of the
best Bible stories that Momma told was the Parable of the Good Samaritan: LUKE
10:25-37 A teacher of the Law came up
and tried to trap Jesus. "Teacher," he asked, "what must I do
to receive eternal life?" Jesus answered him, "What do the
Scriptures say? How do you interpret them?" The man answered, "Love
the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your
strength, and with all your mind; and Love your neighbor as you love
yourself." "You re right," Jesus replied; "do this and
you will live." But the teacher of the Law wanted to justify himself, so
he asked Jesus, "Who is my neighbor?" Jesus answered, "There
was once a man who was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho when robbers
attacked him, stripped him, and beat him up, leaving him half dead. It so
happened that a priest was going down that road; but when he saw the man, he
walked on by on the other side. In the same way, a Levite also came there,
went over and looked at the man, and then walked on by on the other side. But
a Samaritan who was traveling that way came upon the man, and when he saw
him, his heart was filled with pity. he went over to him, poured oil and wine
on his wounds and bandaged them; then he put the man on he own animal and
took him to an inn, where he took care of him. The next day he took out two
silver coins and gave them to the inn-keeper, 'and when I come back this way,
I will pay you whatever else you spend on him.' And Jesus concluded, "In
your opinion, which one of these three acted like a neighbor toward the man
attacked by the robbers?" The teacher of the law answered, ' The one who
was kind to him." Jesus replied, "You go, then, and do the
same."
Now Linda's
momma told of the times of Jesus and that Priests of that day were never
allowed to touch anything not considered sacred and Levites were also very
strict in their culture as well; however, so ere, the Samaritans..... and
momma told her the Parable in today's words and times ..... making sure Linda
understood that true and pure goodness and God's pure love is often covered
in many ways.... often where you least expect to find it ....and to remember
that oftentimes.... beauty is superficial and deceiving whilst the most
common and steady among us.... are actually the jewels more precious than
gold or diamonds..
So she told Linda that a man was driving his
bicycle and he hit a rock and fell very hard into the ditch and hurt his legs
and his shoulder.
Along came a
couple in a beautiful new car.... and although they saw the man and that he
may be seriously hurt.... they pretended not to see him, and kept on going.
The second person along was a lady and she
was in a rush to get to an appointment... and knew she should have stopped
and called for help on her cell phone... but figured the somebody else with
more time would be right along.
A while later, an old trucker happened by
with his old worn out rig, and knew he was late for his deadline and because
he was considered an old man.... by the new younguns.... was mindful for a
quick second .... that if he stopped to help this fellow.... he would most
likely lose his job. His old bones weren't like they used to be as he slowly
made his way over to the man and said, "Do you think you can get up and
get in my truck son?" "Or shall I call an ambulance for you.....
you look like you might have a broken bone or two there and lucky you were wearing
your helmet young man.!"
The young man
became so filled up with emotion.... that this dear old man.... who probably
lived hand to mouth without a spare cent to his name... was the only person
who stopped to help him. Together, they got the young man into the old rig
and tied the bicycle onto the back with some old rope and took the young man
to the nearest hospital.
The young man finally said, "How can I
ever thank you sir for what you did for me today?" "You don't even
know my name."
The old man replied,
"You know, folks call me a grouchy old man for good reason.... but Our
Lord and Savior gave me the gift of passing this way today and being able to
lend you a hand.... I reckon that thanks enough Son."
This was always Linda's favorite prayer time
with her mother and she remembered this one Parable most of all.
So she took her momma's precious Bible and
decided to find herself a good Samaritan and the unconditional love she knew
that Jesus and her momma meant for her to have.
The beautiful child found a grouchy old man,
a mean old cat who's owner couldn't believe that Jesus would bless her with a
child as precious as Linda to love.
I spent over 30 years teaching Sunday School
programs and my children never missed a Sunday and loved the Bible so much
and the influence and precious love that the scriptures gave them as comfort
and the knowlege that Jesus loves each and every one unconditionally.
This Poem was written in parts over 20 years
and I decided to share it here with you; I hope you don't' mind.... it just
feels right.

But as the racially-Jewish population within Christianity dwindled, it became acceptable once again to depict his face, although by the time these earliest works were painted, Jesus had already been dead for two centuries.
The paintings were discovered almost a hundred years ago in an archaeological exploration at Dura Europos in modern day Syria. The city was abandoned in the 250s, and the site had never subsequently been re-inhabited meaning that much was as it had been left.
What’s remarkable about the site - which was located at the intersection of the Hellenistic, Parthian and Roman empires - is that alongside the Christian ruins were places of worship to Greek, Roman and local gods as well as the world’s best-preserved ancient synagogue. The co-existence of these diverse religions, at a time when persecution of Christianity was rife elsewhere suggests a multicultural, tolerant and relatively peaceful city. Other evidence from the site suggests that there was a wide range of cultural traditions and people groups. Fragments of no fewer than seven different languages (Greek, Aramaic, Latin, Parthian, Middle Persian, Hebrew, and Safaitic) have been discovered at the site.
In total there are four scenes depicted from the Gospels. Christ Healing the Paralytic (pictured above) shows one of Jesus’ earliest healings from Mark 2. Then there is a picture of the Good Shepherd, a popular image amongst the earliest Christian art. Also shown is the story from Matthew 14 of Jesus and Peter walking on the water (below) although Jesus’ face appears not to have survived. Lastly there is what appears to be part of a picture of the two/three women at Jesus’ empty tomb.
The exhibition, aptly named ‘Edge of Empires’ uses objects from Yale University Art Gallery, and runs until January 2012.

Earliest Known Picture of Jesus Goes on Display
23/09/11 | Posted by MattPageWhat does Jesus look like when you close your eyes and picture him? Long hair and a beard? Blue eyes even? The oldest images of Jesus ever found go on display today in New York University's Institute for the Study of the Ancient World and there's something distinctly strange about them. The pictures painted closest to the time when Jesus was alive show him with short hair, brown eyes, and, most surprising of all, beardless.

Of
course visual depictions of Jesus have changed enormously over the
centuries, due in part to the fact that the four gospels give no
physical description of Jesus whatsoever. Furthermore, the early church
seems not to have been overly concerned with portraying Jesus visually.
Indeed given that most of the very earliest church was Jewish it’s
possible they adopted mainstream Judaism’s interpretation of one of the
Ten Commandments - “You shall not make graven images”.But as the racially-Jewish population within Christianity dwindled, it became acceptable once again to depict his face, although by the time these earliest works were painted, Jesus had already been dead for two centuries.
It’s interesting that whilst these images were created long before the
New Testament was compiled and before Christianity had become the
official religion of the Roman Empire, these few images capture the
majority of aspects of Jesus’ life. His appearance is typical of that of
the teacher; he is shown performing miraculous signs and healings; the
Good Shepherd suggests a sacrificial and caring leader; and the empty
tomb witnesses to his resurrection. The exhibition, aptly named ‘Edge of Empires’ uses objects from Yale University Art Gallery, and runs until January 2012.
GOOD
NEWS BIBLE JOHN 15: 18-27
- THE WORLD’S HATRED
The
Bible- The World's Hatred.... God bless
each and all and have a great week folks..
The
World's Hatred
18
“If the world hates you, just remember that it has hated me first. 19 If you
belonged to the world, then the world would love you as its own. But I chose
you from this world, and you do not belong to it; that is why the world hates
you. 20 Remember what I told you: ‘Slaves are not greater than their master.’
If people persecuted me, they will persecute you too; if they obeyed my
teaching, they will obey yours too. 21 But they will do all this to you because
you are mine; for they do not know the one who sent me. 22 They would not have
been guilty of sin if I had not come and spoken to them; as it is, they no
longer have any excuse for their sin. 23 Whoever hates me hates my Father also.
24 They would not have been guilty of sin if I had not done among them the
things that no one else ever did; as it is, they have seen what I did, and they
hate both me and my Father. 25 This, however, was bound to happen so that what
is written in their Law may come true: ‘They hated me for no reason at all.’
26
“The Helper will come—the Spirit, who reveals the truth about God and who comes
from the Father. I will send him to you from the Father, and he will speak
about me. 27 And you, too, will speak about me, because you have been with me
from the very beginning.
